The goal of Schonberg Labs' cables is to reduce or remove the reactance of the conductors. In other words, we wanted to reduce both the capacitance and inductance to the lowest level possible. We have used the best materials and geometry to remove the reactance which colors the sound by changing timing and frequency responses.
Geometry, the relationship of the conductors, insulation and other materials, determines the basic electrical features of the cable. The two conductors are the most loosely spiraled from each other so that the positive and negative conductors can be isolated from each other enough.
As most interconnects are not balanced using the same cable for the shield and the “return” signal, interfering signals can affect the signal path. To address this problem, we constructed different path for “send” and “return” and added a layer of braided shield.
While a current is passing through a conductor, the dielectric soaks up energy from the conductor. The dielectric releases the absorbed energy back into the conductor, and the delay between absorbing and releasing the energy causes a contamination of the signal which deprives the music of some detail and vivacity.
More insulating layers including the shield cause more contamination and distortion. The thickness of insulation is another concern. As the insulation becomes thicker, the signal is more likely to be distorted and delayed.
Recently, as a way to reduce dielectric contamination and distortion, higher quality plastic materials such as Teflon have been developed. But plastics such as Teflon insulation and coatings can also have distorted sonic attributes which are unnatural to the ear.
But the cotton insulation is the first in its dielectric properties with an exception to air. A Dielectric Constant of Air is 1.0, cotton is 1.3, and Teflon is 2.0. Consequently, the insulating characteristics of cotton are much closer to air than those of Teflon.
As a way to decrease these side effects of the absorbed energy, we make use of the unbleached natural thick cotton dielectric (insulation). This unbleached natural thick cotton reduces dielectric absorption(=the least energy storage possible) and electrostatic micro discharges. It also achieves extremely low capacitance and natural high damping, which leads to attaining unique natural smooth & dynamic sound.
Unbleached cotton dielectric plays an important role as a cushion in reducing unnecessary vibrations to secure real sound. It makes a natural and warm sound perfectly harmonized with silver conductor. By eliminating the unnecessary vibrations, while securing the original signal, natural cotton dielectric creates vivid and lively music.
Another merit of cotton dielectric is high-dampening and non-resonant features which make sound even better than when the teflon or bare silver is used. Therefore, no other modern innovative material surpasses this cotton dielectric in realizing natural sound.
In addition, we create the air galleries that run along the inside walls of the tube. They are the room between the cotton insulation and rubber tube. This significantly cuts down the electrostatic micro discharges turning to the capacitance which deteriorates signal sound seriously.
Furthermore, we make the air-tight construction at both ends of the air gallery to make a vacuum which prevents sound contamination and oxidization of the conductor.
As a result, a pair of conductor carrying signal will be suspended in a semi-vacuum. The use of a semi-vacuum has long been acknowledged as the ideal dielectric environment. We name it as the Schonberg Labs' Airtight cotton dielectric. This is a significant improvement over PVC, Teflon and other simple cotton tubes.
The Schonberg Labs' Airtight cotton dielectric creates a weak and stable electrostatic field. This minimizes both energy storage in the dielectric and the multiple nonlinear time-delays. Schonberg Labs' Airtight cotton dielectric is the best insulation available in this sense.

3. Mundorf's 9.5% Silver Solder
As we use silver wire, it only makes sense to use silver solder. We have used Mundorf’s supreme silver solder which contains 9.5% silver and 0.1% gold. This is the best in the world.
4. Cryogenic Treatment
The process of cryo treatment improves the sonic characteristics. In addition, the sound of cable becomes even quieter. The process of Cyro is done with good process control to achieve wires of the highest standard.
(1) Using solid Conductor
Distortion coming from both magnetic interaction and bare strands touching does not exist when solid conductor designs are used because solid conductors cause significantly less harm to the signal and provide significantly better performance.
(2)The Skin Effect & Rectangular Conductor
Skin effect is the tendency of an alternating electric current (AC) to distribute itself within a conductor with the current density being largest near the surface of the conductor, decreasing at greater depths.
The electric current flows mainly at the "skin" of the conductor, between the outer surface and a level called the skin depth. The skin effect causes the effective resistance of the conductor to increase at higher frequencies where the skin depth is smaller, thus reducing the effective cross-section of the conductor.
The skin effect is due to opposing eddy currents induced by the changing magnetic field resulting from the alternating current. Over 98% of the current will flow within a layer 4 times the skin depth from the surface. But skin effect can be reduced by using rectangular wire.
(3) SL-RSLC (Schonberg Labs’ Rectangular Shaped Long Crystal) pure silver wire
The conductor that is used in the batia Interconnect is the Rectangular Solid silver wire, exclusive to Schonberg Labs. The SL-RSLC conductor starts as 99.9996%(= .999996) ultra pure silver wire, which is then extra softly annealed, and polished by hand after annealing.
The SL-RSLC(Schonberg Labs’ rectangular shaped Long Crystal) solid silver wire, annealed 99.9996% pure silver ribbon sheathed in Airtight cotton dielectric or teflon, is the continuous casting silver wire.
Silver wire is generally more favored than copper due to its greater conductivity rate (106%). Compared to the conductivity of copper (100%), however, that of gold is approximately 71.8%, far below that of copper or silver. Silver does the least harm to the signal, improves speed, and upgrades bass & treble extension. It has also enhanced soundstage over copper.
We have used extra soft silver wire for the best quality. There is significant difference between regular and extra soft, and the improvement is obviously noticed from the first tone. Not only the sound stage increases sizably but also transparency improves surprisingly.
Moreover, we have developed the rectangular-shaped wire. So SL-RSLC silver wire makes signal travel throughout the whole cross-section with ultra low skin effect. The sound of it is tightly packed, extremely fast and coherent.
The surface of a conductor defines electro-magnetic field and current density. The surface purity and smoothness critically characterize the sonic feature than any other part of a conductor. Therefore, we have polished the surface of rectangular wire with the schonberg-labs' tri-level steps by hand to make the sound more sweet ,mellow & warm.
As a result, unlike that of the others', the surface of this conductor is as shiny as the mirror-like surface. wow, You can see yourself on the mirror of the shiny rectangular silver conductor.
And 99.99% silver has 100 ppm allowable impurities and 99.999% silver has 10 ppm allowable impurities. The purity of 5-nines is ten times higher than that of 4-nines silver. “Six-nines” or even "seven-nines" are just downright marketing fraud.
It is very rare to find a degree of purity greater than 4-nines (.9999) in the commercial marketplace.
The refinery processing 6-nines (.999999) purity of silver doesn’t exist on earth no matter how hard you tried to find. 5-nines silver is practically the highest purity in the world, still it is very rare yet. On this account, the price of 5-nines silver is five times(500%) higher than that of 4-nines.
On the other hand, the OCC process refers to what's happening between the casting & extruding and cooling process after the refining is completed. Therefore, the OCC process can neither enhance the purity of the material nor turn the material into a mono crystal(single crystal). When we actually measure the level of foreign bodies such as Cu, Pb, Fe, Zn, Mg,etc, the purity of OCC just turn to be about 99.99%.
The purity of oxygen is crucial for copper because oxygen eats into the copper. But oxygen is harmless to silver. Since silver is stable in air and water, silver doesn't oxidize . The purity of oxygen is not much important for silver, but the elimination of impurities such as Cu, Pb, Fe, Zn and Mg is very critical.

<1> Batia Ultra pure silver cotton interconnects
We have made the Batia interconnect using 2 SL-RSLC pure silver wire(0.5mm x 0.8mm, for both the signal path and return path) in Airtight cotton dielectric. The cables are marked with a signal direction arrow to prevent creating a Ground Loop which has the potential to induce Hum.
